MY PURPOSE IN LIFE AND WORK

"I believe I was born to help change the future of work from the bottom up. I believe work should be something we love and that provides each of us with fulfillment."

My curiosity and understanding of the need to modernize work began in 2013 while taking coursework for My Urban Studies degree, which basically just means I graduated knowing how to daydream about how society could be better than it is today.

I always wanted to work at a non-profit or a B-corp knowing that they were prioritizing social good over profits. I wanted to ensure that my work impacted others. During my undergraduate career I earned a certificate in Non-profit Management.

But, even during my first job at 14 as a tutor, I started to notice the pressure-filled expectations that organizations had for their employees. Then as a military spouse who spend much of my son’s early life single-parenting throughout deployments, I saw over and over again how difficult it was to balance work with raising a child.

During one of my husband's deployments, I saw the sexism and lack of opportunity that women, specifically, receive during their careers when I was
reprimanded for needing to take my son to the doctor more often than my boss liked. I felt the claustrophobia of only having two weeks of vacation time because I hadn't "earned" the right to have a life outside of my job. I also felt the absolute exhaustion of taking care of a child and therefore having no other time for anything but feeding and putting my son to bed after a day of work before I had to do it all over again.

One of the hardest decisions I ever had to make was to stop working so that I could be available for my son due to these restraints. And it was a blessing that I did because not long after, my husband deployed at the hight of Covid. Like many other families, I was in lock-down and single parenting with no ability for my out-of-state family to support. But for someone who is very goal-oriented and dreams big, that left a hole where my drive used to be. It was during this time that I experienced extreme and anxiety. Not only due to the state of the world and my husband being gone, but for needing to put my own passions and career on hold.

Throughout this time in my life, I felt completely stuck. I refused to believe that I had to "suck it up like everyone else" or become a stay at home mom. I deeply believe that if most people feel this repressed by work, they just may not have the energy to fight it, then that means something has to change. And better yet, that means something CAN change.

My conviction never left me as I Was constantly seeking the path for how I could best suppor others in Helping them realize what is acceptable. I also knew that there had to be a way to help business leaders realize the potential technology, wealth, and psychology could play in allowing people to experience more lightness at work.

My decision that these feelings of exhaustion, loneliness, and unfulfillment were not acceptable led me on a spiritual journey. Through books, podcasts, and courses, I learned about manifestation, redefined my spiritual belief system, and became firm in my values. I came to believe that the work culture I wanted was possible, but that people weren't educated on how to create it... that my desires are worthy. I decided I would no longer tolerate other people telling me I had to deprioritize one: my personal goals, my kid, or my work. And while this was an amazing realization that led me to seeking work-life balance that I once only dreamed of, the drive, aspiration, and clarity about how to actually create change outside of my personal ambition didn't come until later.

In addition to my Urban Studies degree, in 2020 I took select Graduate coursework in Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, and Business Management. In 2021, I became a certified Life Coach, and in 2022 I became certified in Project Management through the Project Management Institute. Over time, I decided to take my career into my own hands and explore entrepreneurship so I could do both: be a mom and make the world a better place. As I was taking course after course, listening non-stop to entrepreneurial podcasts, and seeking various certifications, I realized that entrepreneurship is not just as a way to improve one’s own experience, but to redefine what it means to create workplaces for others.

LUCKILY, I STUCK TO MY GUNS, AND ALL OF MY LIFE EXPERIENCE HAS LED ME TO WORTH OF WORK.

I realized that the re-education of entrepreneurs is necessary in order for work to truly change for everyone. I saw the mistaken trend of belief that only entrepreneurs or executives could create a life where they had work-life balance. And, fortunately or unfortunately, it is not realistic to suggest everyone try to fall into one of those two categories.

I deeply believe that work should not be fulfilling for just a select few. My experience in school, as a full-time employee, freelance project management professional, empathetic life coach, mom, and military spouse gives me a unique understanding of how entrepreneurship has a key role to play in allowing work to become something that adds value to all of our lives. And this understanding was the birth of Worth of Work.

Today, I am the Founder and CEO of Worth of Work, I am a California-based business owner, mom, and military spouse. I'm super into book clubs, cats, and anything French. But most importantly, I have a fire in my heart to support small business owners in contributing to the future of work.

I can't wait to get to know you.

Words I live by

“Returning from work feeling inspired, safe, filled and grateful is a natural human right to which we are all entitled, and not a modern luxury that only a few lucky ones are able to find.”

The Worth of Work Philosophy

I am OBSESSED with imagining a future where earning a living adds more than just monetary value to our lives... and where work no longer subtracts intrinsic value from them. I’ve always sought to answer the question, “How can we make work better for EVERYONE, not just for entrepreneurs and executives?” Worth of Work was created to help solopreneurs fill the gaps that other online leadership courses have been missing. I have a passion for ensuring that small online business owners can lead in a way that creates a future in which work adds value to the lives of everyone involved. What if work could become something we love and provide us with fulfillment; rather than sucking the life out of us and leaving us feeling like we're wasting away? If that mission resonates with you, I’m glad you’re here and I look forward to connecting with you!
